After class, we will have time to tour the Conservatory, which was first designed and constructed in 1916 by respected German landscape architect George Kessler, for whom Kessler Blvd in Indianapolis is named. Kessler studied under Frederick Law Olmstead, who designed New York’s Central Park along with many other parks and gardens. The Conservatory is now houses a rainforest, including a wide variety of plant species including palms, orchids, ferns, cacao, vanilla, bananas and coffee. The Sunken Garden includes three acres of European classical formal gardens, historically maintained as George Kessler would have designed them in the 1910s.
