The Senior Games of Monroe and Owen Counties began in 1986 with only 35 participants. Twenty-two years later, over 260 men and women 50 years and older competed in 42 scheduled events, and the numbers continue to grow! Accessibility of events for older adults interested in participating has been a major goal of the Senior Games Council since its inception. Transportation is provided by Rural Transit at no cost to any of the participants. To further increase accessibility, modified events are scheduled to accommodate the restricted physical abilities of a growing number of nursing home and assisted living residents involved in the games.

Locations for events are scattered throughout Monroe and Owen Counties, creating greater accessibility while utilizing the many exceptional athletic facilities available in our community. Events including golf, track and field, bowling, softball and many others have been made possible by the generous support enjoyed by the Senior Games.
